Establishment of Eco Club in DIET Saiha
In a significant step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among teacher trainees, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Saiha, has officially established an Eco Club in 1/10/2022. The initiative aims to foster a spirit of responsibility and active participation in environmental protection within the academic community.
The Eco Club is envisioned as a platform for pre-service and in-service teacher trainees to engage in activities that promote ecological consciousness, conservation of natural resources, and climate action. It will serve as a catalyst in spreading environmental awareness through hands-on experiences and participatory learning.
The club will undertake a range of activities such as:
1.Tree plantation drives in and around the campus
2. Cleanliness and waste management campaigns
3. Awareness programs on biodiversity and climate change
4. Promotion of eco-friendly alternatives and sustainable practices
5. Observation of important environmental days (e.g., World Environment Day, Earth Day)
6. Nature walks, field visits, and eco-awareness competitions
The Eco Club will also collaborate with local schools and community groups to extend its outreach and impact. Through this initiative, DIET Saiha aspires to instill environmental values among future educators, enabling them to become change agents who will inspire environmental stewardship among students and communities alike.
The establishment of the Eco Club aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes experiential learning and environmental education as integral components of holistic education
